Adrian Whitaker Ph.D.

Adie joined Far Western in 2008 after completing his Ph.D. in archaeology at the University of California, Davis. He has worked in Northern California Archaeology for the past eight years and conducted his dissertation research in Humboldt and Mendocino counties. At Far Western he has taken on a variety of cultural resource management projects including all stages of archaeological inquiry, ranging from small surveys of less than 100 acres to large-scale data recovery and test excavations. During this time, his geographic focus has broadened to include the archaeology of the Central Valley, Sierra foothills, and Shasta County.

Adie has a keen interest in public education and has been presenting archaeology to school groups and the general public for over ten years. He is currently working with Laura Leach-Palm to expand the reach of public education in the California archaeological community. He brings this experience to Public Outreach and Education components of Far Western projects, and has assisted Far Western Graphics Designer Tammara Norton in a number of web-pieces and museum displays.

Adie’s research has been published in the Journal of Archaeological Science and California Archaeology. He was the President/Editor-in-Chief of the Center for Archaeological Research at Davis while a student at UC Davis, and is currently the Northern Vice President of the Society for California Archaeology.
