Although essentially a one-person office, directed by Senior Archaeologist Deborah Jones, M.A, our presence in San Luis Obispo has been an important factor in our expansive research efforts along the central coast of California, from Monterey to Santa Barbara counties. This office undertakes the direction of field efforts in the local region; contributes to significant research and write-up of project sites; prepares management documents; and conducts laboratory work including collections management, artifact analyses, and shell identification. The branch office also cooperates with the Cal Poly archaeological program by working with student interns and occasionally using the on-campus laboratory for processing large collections.
